Suicide-related Behaviors in Asian culture
Suicidal Ideation Studies
Suicide-related behaviors are an especially salient issue in the Asian American community (Leong et al., 2018). Yet, Asian Americans are least likely to report mental health concerns or seek professional help compared to other racial/ethnic groups in the U.S. (Guo et al., 2015; Saykeo & Lawrence, 2018). Studies that explored Asian American’s suicidal ideation found that the Interpersonal-Psychological Theory of Suicide (IPTS; Joiner, 2005) provides a helpful framework in integrating cultural context when exploring this matter (e.g., Y. J. Wong et al., 2012; Wang et al., 2013). The IPTS serves as the theoretical framework to build our research project in the effort to investigate the role of clinical intervention.
